Shakespeare’s Richard II is a play about leadership as well as the power of the lobbyists and politicos who surround leadership. Of course, that was in the 14th Century. Nobody today has heard of a leader using a foreign war to distract a disaffected population; of lawful leaders using illegal means to secure their continued influence or who resort to actions that are technically legal but violate moral right; looking at war with Islam as so meritorious that it wipes out all previous sins, no matter how grievous.
Whew. Thank goodness those days are behind us.
